As the dust is settling on Operation Absolute Resolve, the swift unilateral US operation to capture Nicolas Maduro, the President of Venezuela, opinions have been split from international condemnations coming from China, Russia and Iran amongst others to the dancing celebrations seen in Venezuela diaspora. Whilst the legality of whether President Trump’s strike to capture Maduro would be discussed and dissected ad nauseum, this article seeks to take a brief look at the actions from a theoretical perspective within international relations theory on the impact of this strike as a reflection on the direction that President Trump is taking the US down towards.
