New and Old Immigrants in Canada on Entering Politics: From Awareness and Policy Debate to Advocacy — and Into the Political “System”

In recent years, many Hongkongers have emigrated to Canada for political reasons. Among them are not only families, but also young people who have only recently graduated. After settling down, some begin to pay close attention to local issues and seek to bring concerns shared by Hongkongers into the political arena. Carlo is one such example. Focusing on transportation issues in Toronto, he believes that political participation for new immigrants often begins simply by paying attention to public issues.
