Cheng Li-wen’s Victory: Old KMT Forces in New Clothes

Cheng Li-wen, the newly elected KMT chair, has prompted both public and private speculation about how to interpret the outcome. In my view, Cheng represents the most unconventional background of any KMT chair in the party’s history. It is worth listening to her words and observing her actions before forming conclusions. Today seems an appropriate moment to offer some reflections.
