Breaking down inflation pressures: a rise, a dip, and then another climb

Recent debate has swung back towards concerns about inflation. Data across the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan and Australia, have surprised on the upside, while the Federal Reserve has turned more hawkish and signalled little appetite for rate cuts next year. The question is whether inflation is truly set to return. As Milton Friedman famously argued, inflation is ultimately a monetary phenomenon.
